Dawn Avery In Concert – A Benefit for The Men’s Home

Dawn Avery, cellist/composer/vocalist is bringing her unique musical vision to Christ Church in Alexandria, VA for a concert to benefit The Men’s Home. Sometimes called “mystic pop”, she creates a contemporary world music soundscape from spiritual, pop and classical elements. Her calmly passionate vocals and soaring cello lines reflect a deep devotion rooted in her Native American heritage and love of sacred traditions. She has many recordings and projects, you can read and hear about them at dawnavery.com and on YouTube at bit.ly/dawnavery

As stated in its charter, the purpose of The Men’s Home is “to provide a home-like environment for alcoholics who are sincere in wanting to recover from alcoholism: to provide food, bed, information, fellowship and the sharing of spiritual values which are a part of that recovery; to expose the alcoholic to other recovering alcoholics so that, together, they can regain self respect, confidence, and a useful place in the community; and to help attain sobriety through the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.”

We are excited and grateful that Ms. Avery and her ensemble are giving of their time to assist The Home in continuing our mission.

Video and music

Here’s a recent video piece from Maryland Public Television’s “The Dig” where Dawn explains the nature of her music, her native heritage, and the ideas that have contributed to her work in performing and composition:

We at The Men’s Home are grateful to those who have given of their time for this event. Not only the performers but other professionals who are giving freely of their talents to make the show happen.

Thanks also to the staff at Christ Church for making the space available. Most importantly we once again thank the community that continues to support our mission. As many of you know, each man in our home is taking on the most important errand of his life—saving it. Your support assists us that we may assist them. Our deepest thanks.
