We have the event catered and some items made by residents and some potluck courtesy of our friends. We eat and visit from 6:30 to about 8:00 p.m. and then set up for a meeting where we feature speakers from other parts of the country.
Although dinner is free, the event is a fundraiser for us. Your donations are of course appreciated but also crucial in allowing us to continue our mission. Because of your assistance we can continue to provide men in early recovery with the opportunity to live in a sober environment and prepare for a happy life on their own. Now in our sixty-sixth year, we are grateful for the opportunity to give back what was so freely given us.
We hope to see you for an evening of food and fellowship to benefit The Men’s Home. This year we’ll feast on some BBQ from Sweet Fire Donna’s (and potluck) from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., then enjoy a special Speakers’ meeting from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. featuring Amy D. all the way from Louisville, Kentucky! We hope to see you Saturday, December 1st here at The Men’s Home.

She has many recordings and projects, you can read and hear about them at dawnavery.com and on YouTube at bit.ly/dawnavery
As stated in its charter, the purpose of The Men’s Home is “to provide a home-like environment for alcoholics who are sincere in wanting to recover from alcoholism: to provide food, bed, information, fellowship and the sharing of spiritual values which are a part of that recovery; to expose the alcoholic to other recovering alcoholics so that, together, they can regain self respect, confidence, and a useful place in the community; and to help attain sobriety through the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.”
We are excited and grateful that Ms. Avery and her ensemble are giving of their time to assist The Home in continuing our mission.
There will be a short reception to follow the performance. Talk and light refreshments from 8:30-9:15 pm.
Once again, it’s time for our annual end-of-summer backyard BBQ throwdown. We’ll do burgers, dogs, and who knows what else. There is no reason to be hungry, angry, lonely or tired this Labor Day. See you here!

Twice each year, we host a dinner and Speakers’ meeting to celebrate and say thank you to friends of the Home. We do the first in May and another in December.
We have the event catered and some items made by residents and some potluck courtesy of our friends. We eat and visit from 6:30 to about 8:00 p.m. and then set up for a meeting where this year we welcome Edith P. from Nebraska.
Although dinner is free, the event is a fundraiser for us. Your donations are of course appreciated but also crucial in allowing us to continue our mission. It’s that time again, our annual Memorial Day Picnic here at The Men’s Home. We do it on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th, from 2:30-5:30PM. It’s burgers, dogs, and whatever else we can think of, along with sides and sweets.
Folks usually bring other dishes that they like (certainly not required), so we enjoy a wide variety of things to eat. It’s an informal day of food and fellowship, bring the families and dogs too!
The pandemic of 2020 has forced us to revise this year’s tournament. We feel that the idea of staging a safe event isn’t workable right now. However, there will be Men’s Home golf this year.
On Monday, September 14th we will send two foursomes out to play at Bristow Manor, in Bristow, Virginia. As the teams play the course, we’ll check in with coverage of the action on Facebook Live. You can pledge donations based on the strokes under par. Some suggestions for giving would be $10, 50, 100 or 500.
